Chico Suave

Chico Suave: Ultimate Texan and Your Future Best Friend

We are looking for a new home for our boy Chico.  He is as cute and smart and soft as they get!  He is a very handsome one year old, 60 lb, red heeler/lab mix who is super healthy, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, house trained and has all the obedience foundations! We rescued Chico about a year ago, as a tiny puppy born in the country with no one to care for him.  We've done lots of hours of training with him on our own and with dog trainers - he's smart and food motivated which makes him fun to train.  He knows down, sit, stay, spin and plays fetch (rare for a heeler!)

We also have a baby that just turned one.  Ultimately, Chico needs a lot of attention because he's also only one.  We haven't been able to find the balance between that need and taking care of our baby.  He's a good boy who deserves a home that will give him the time and devotion to be his best self.

He would love a home with a human that wants to be his best friend and lives an active lifestyle. He's turning into a great running dog; we take him on runs up to 45 minutes and he still wants to pause for sniffing breaks, but I think in time he'll be a great little running partner. Kids that are old enough to help with the training would be a good fit.  Younger is fine, too, but he will gravitate most to befriending the person/people training him. He's been good with our baby and has never met a person he didn't want to know. He would also be really happy with another dog of similar energy level so they can play together.  He currently has a heeler best friend in the neighborhood that he plays with and they have the best time and go home tired and happy. Because he loves chase, we don't recommend a home with a cat. He gets excited when meeting new people and gets jumpy and barks excitedly.  If you're a dog person, this is no big deal and he calms down soon enough, but probably not a great fit for small kids or people that don't like a BIG HELLO!

If your home loves the outdoors, the rewards of dog training and a buddy to curl up on the couch with at the end off the day, Chico could be a great match for you.  We live in Austin, TX.  Email me if you want more information: .  We require a vet reference, a home visit and a $100 donation to Blue Dog.
